Post America Changing
So what do all you Americans think of the election? What will happen if the Democrats win the Senate too? What will happen now that Rumsfeld resigned? What do you think of Nancy Pelosi!?

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I was elated when I heard that Rumsfeld was resigning, less than elated when I heard who his replacement will be. I think it's good to have the dems in power again, but Pelosi is not my favorite character, she's in big with the Clinton's who are vacationing buddies of the Bushes. We'll have to see, but over all I am pleased.

you wont see the same liberal pelosi that we all know and hate as speaker....she will become more moderate since most of the dems now in congress are moderates (which there is nothing wrong with that)

as for rumsfeld, it was smart to wait after the elections to resign, but it doesnt matter if he does or not because his replacement wont be anything stellar

once the dems officially take over in the house it will be a huge change from the republicans having rule....i am hoping that they dont screw it up like they have plenty of times before

Most of the Dems that got elected are more moderate than the people that have been leading the Democratic party as of late (like Kerry, Kennedy, and Pelosi). That will throw a wrench into whatever plans those people have, and it may change the face and direction of the Democratic Party. A more moderate Democratic party will be much more competative in 2008 than they were in 2004. THe Democrats won this time because they got alot of votes from people that usualy would vote Republican but didn't because or both the war and the fact that the republicans in congress didn't really get anything significant done. The Democrats are under then gun now to act instead of gripe, and I think thier chances for the presidency in 2008 hinge on wheather or not they are able to get better results on issues like Iraq, Immigration, and Social Security than the republicans did (they don't really have to worry about the economy- Bush and company actualy did quite well with that problem). If Pelosi and Kerry are able to hijack the party, voters may not return to them in 08. If they deliver results that voters wanted then they may see a return to power. They have a lot of work to do and only 2 years to do it if the want to keep the momentum going- no more getting by just on bush hatred alone.

Fuck me, Dems got the Senate too! What do you think will change now in the states?

If the Democrats are able to show a strong leadership and unite all Democrats, I think they can accomplish a lot; but then I'm not well versed in the specifics of the Democratic party.

as of right now, this is the best this government will run....everything will level out due to each congressman and the president knowing that they have to compromise with each other: the budget will be balanced, tax cuts will be fair, etc.

the last two times i remember the president being the opposite party of both houses of congress was clinton and reagan, and both times the government ran very smoothly, we had a strong economy and the budget was balanced....hopefully this happens again

if the dems take the presidency next term (CLINTON!!!)E@$@) and the house and senate stay dem, you will see a lot of the "moderate" dems become bolder and more liberal because they dont have to worry about the president vetoing what they pass

i just hope it stays split...you will see bush become a lot more quiet these last two years

The greatest country on earth.

But yeah... I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Bush presidency is in these last years. Should be good for a laugh.

bush will start to act more like a president and less like a pundit or campaign tool.

SO i guess John Murtha wants to be Majority leader, and Pelosi is all for it. The same John Murtha that decided it was a good idea to declare that marines that had been accused of murdering civilians in Iraq were guilty before they had any kind of a trial. The same John Murtha that got caught on tape, by the FBI, taking $50,000 in brides. His plan for Iraq is to pull all the troops out and try to fight the war on airpower alone. Awesome.

Republicans fight back by allowing Trent Lot, racist embarassment, to get the minority whip position. may the most crooked party win.

politics at it's finest.
